So, Twenty One Pilots dropped an album last year

like the title says, Twenty One Pilots dropped an album last year, Clancy. If you know me irl, you probably know how big of a fan I am of tøp. They are my most favourite band of all time, no second thought about it. Like most of the pilots’ fans, I started listening to them when they released Blurryface in 2015, altho i didn’t actually get into them until after they dropped Trench, when i was randomly listening to radio on my Walkman. Trench is arguably their best album till date. I feel in love with that album and relase of Scaled and Icy (which has a controversial place among the general public and some clikkies1), just cemented the label of being my favourite band. So, this is just a (very late) review of the album which i wanted to do for a long time. 😊
The mainline albums by the band, namely:
follow and over-arching story, which might be too much to talk about in this blog, maybe a blog post for another day, so, i’ll skip over it today, tho you can watch a recap of the story here. Clancy was meant to be “the Last Chapter” of this story. So the fans were obviously hyped for it, especailly cause the bands loves going into hiatus after they end the tour cycles. On top of that, The band decided that they would make a music video for each of the songs on the LP (14 MVs for 13 Songs, The Craving got two MVs). Given all the factors, people have some huge expectations from band.
But comes the release date, annnddddd people didnt seem to like the release???? 😭
I admit people had valid points, but i guess it’s just a thing now to hate tøp release 😔. The first single from the album “Overcompensate” had a very different tone than rest of the album, which people expected to the be the general tone of the entire album. The album was advertised as the end to the story of Trench, but it barely moved the story along. Another thing, It was expected that all of the song’s MV will feature the lore in some way or another but it was only a couple of MVs that actually tackled the lore. So, i do really understand why people were disappointed. On top on of this, The album failed to debut at any major music charts. People really just got the perfect excuses to continue the hate train. I’ll admit i wasnt satisfied with the album on first listen too. But I just don’t know, there is just someting about the music that this duo produces that hits the right stop for me. Their music just grows on me, even after the second listen 🥰. And listening to the songs this past year, kinda elevated this album to the my most favourite release from them. I guess i’m yapping a lot, i need to get back to point and start talking about my opinion about each song on the LP.
Overcompensate
The opening track to the album. If you listened to this track alone, you would think the rest of the album is gonna be cracking, badass(?), and just hard in general. Boy would you be wrong. Overconpensate is def the black sheep on Clancy. This song bleeds lore. The lyrics and MV, both are “for the lore”, so i have a hard time connecting to the song lyrically. That being said, this song does goes hard. I looped the hell out of it when it was released and I think i have it memorized front to back. So yea, definitely of my favourites from the album.
My Rating: 5/5.
